Meet Our Team
Dr. Marc Conterato graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago in 1986. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine in 1989 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and then completed a second residency in Emergency Medicine in 1992 at the University of Florida, Jacksonville. During his last year of residency at the University of Florida, Dr. Conterato was a Chief Resident, and also served as a Shuttle Support Physician for NASA at Cape Kennedy. During the same time period, he also served as an independent contractor to the USAF at Patrick Shores AFB in Florida. Dr. Conterato joined North Memorial Medical Center in July 1992 and became Associate Medical Director at North Medical Ambulance Service in January of 1993. In January 2013 he joined with Dr. John Lyng and Dr. Pat Lilja to form the Office of the Medical Director for NMAS. During this time, he received a Meritorious Service Award from the Minneapolis Fire Department and served as the Medical Director for the Medical Support Team of the Minneapolis Police Emergency Response Unit (2002-2006). Dr. Conterato left his role with NMAS in September 2020, where he developed and implemented guidelines for the administration of hypothermia in the field for resuscitated cardiac arrest patients. He also developed and acts as medical director for the Resuscitative Hypothermia program at North Memorial Health Hospital, which has treated over 600 patients since October of 2006. Dr. Conterato currently serves as a Unit Physician for Minnesota Task Force 1, an urban search and rescue unit. Dr. Conterato represents Minneapolis EMS at the Gathering of Eagles Conference, a gathering of metropolitan EMS directors from across the U.S, Europe and the Pacific. He also represents NMHC in the Minnesota Resuscitation Consortium and is the physician director for the MN Mobile ECMO Consortium.
Dr. Julie Houle is a practicing emergency physician in northeastern Minnesota. She has a 20 year career in emergency medicine and rural EMS. A graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School, she is double-boarded in Family Medicine and the subspecialty of EMS Medicine. She recently completed a Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration from  the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. Dr. Houle has served on the board of the National Association of EMS Physicians and is former chair of the NAEMSP Rural Committee. She is medical Director for a number of northeastern Minnesota agencies including ALS, BLS and EMR services. As a Nationally Registered Paramedic , she is a  member of Morse Fall Lake First  Responders whose service includes parts of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
Dr. Michael Wilcox is a Board-Certified Family Practice Physician who has practiced in rural Minnesota for 38 years. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Minnesota and his Doctor of Medicine Degree at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He completed post-graduate training at Hennepin County Medical Center, in Minneapolis and completed his Bush Medical Fellowship in Critical & Emergency Care in 1985. Dr. Wilcox is the former Coordinator at the Emergency Care Plus Program for North Memorial Health Care in Minneapolis, and Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency & Family Medicine, University of Minnesota. Dr. Wilcox is the Medical Director for the South Central and Southwest EMS Regional Programs, as well as Medical Director at the Community Paramedic Program at Hennepin Technical College in addition to being a CALS instructor. An early architect of community paramedicine, Dr. Wilcox offers clinical skills training and oversight, CME/curriculum development, the development of policy and protocol, outcome analysis and quality assurance initiatives. Also a national conference speaker, he is a gifted ambassador of community paramedicine. Dr. Wilcox offers to serve in a contract medical director capacity for clients launching their own community paramedic programs.
Dr. Kevin Sipprell is an emergency physician with Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia MN. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1992. Completed residency in Emergency Medicine from Regions Hospital in 1999. He has been the ALS Medical director for Ridgeview Ambulance Service since 2000. He also provides medical direction to multiple other BLS and EMR agencies. He is Board certified and both Emergency Medicine and EMS. Dr. Sipprell’s interest in medicine began after college while working as a research scientist in the departments of Cardiovascular surgery and Radiology studying the biochemistry of heart attacks. His passion for emergency medicine and EMS became clear after becoming a member of the Mound Fire Department. He stayed active on the department all through medical school and residency for a total of 20 years, and still enjoys occasionally responding with them as their EMS medical director.
